ICOA buys Cafe.com

WARWICK, R.I.-Broadband Internet and managed services provider ICOA Inc. said it has acquired the assets, contracts, existing hot-spot locations and equipment of privately-held wireless Internet provider Café.com for an undisclosed amount in cash and stock.

Café.com has 40 deployed locations in Southern California, including Denny’s, IHOP and Dunkin Donuts, as well as hotels, coffeehouses and bakeries. ICOA said it now owns and operates more than 1,300 broadband access installations in 45 states.

“This acquisition secures a diversified regional footprint in Southern California and relationships with leading national brands to further strengthen our quick-service restaurant footprint,” said Rick Schiffmann, ICOA chief executive officer.

ICOA noted the acquisition is its seventh since it entered the broadband market in late 2003 following the acquisition of Qgo, Airport Network Solutions, iDockUSA, AuthDirect, Wise Technologies and LinkSpot Networks.

ICOA’ stock was unchanged on the over-the-counter board early Wednesday at 5.9 cents per share.
