Payless applies for FCC license to offer prepaid service

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla.-Payless Communication Holdings Inc. said it has filed an application for a 214 license with the Federal Communications Commission.

Any company that sells retail and wholesale service with international and U.S. terminations, including prepaid calling cards, prepaid wireless and Voice over Internet Protocol, must obtain a certificate of authority under Section 214 of the Communications Act of 1934. A 214 authorization is a license to offer international telecommunications service, said the company.

When it receives approval, the company plans to launch service for retail and wholesale services in international and U.S. markets through Payless Telephone Co.
