NEW YORK-Wireless will continue its role as the driving force behind growth of the global telecommunications industry, according to a report from Fitch Ratings.
Fitch said companies will depend more on wireless operations to sustain strong financial metrics. Fitch outlined a trend of expansion followed by consolidation in some markets. This trend includes more opportunities for start-up wireless operators, a more robust competitive environment due to a greater number of operators, continued advancement in new applications for wireless service, expansion and improvement in wireless networks, and consolidation in maturing markets. However, many markets are still showing rapid growth, particularly where fixed-line penetration is low.
The report includes a two-year quarterly review of 14 major operating statistics for about 50 wireless operators in 28 countries. The report also summarizes regional developments for North America, Europe/Middle East/Africa, Asia/Pacific and Latin America.
