To the Editor,
One significant differentiator for MVNOs (Aug. 8 “Different looks” editorial) would be to acquire a channel or two of 2.5 GHz spectrum to gain greater flexibility in future product offerings. Just 5.5 megahertz in the top NFL markets might dramatically improve the product offering potentials of an MVNO like ESPN that rides on the Sprint network. Since ESPN is designing its own handsets and will probably be riding on 1.9 GHz and 2.5 GHz in the future, why not have some of their own bandwidth in major markets?
At that point it is a simple command and control by the home signal in each market for what spectrum the device should be looking at.
This raises interesting opportunities not only for ESPN, but for all MVNOs on the Sprint network.
