Sprint Nextel Corp. plans to launch a full-track music download service by the holidays, the newly merged carrier said Tuesday.
The operator looks to be the first U.S. carrier to deploy full-track music services, which have gained traction among wireless users in some Asian and European markets. While reports indicate Sprint Nextel will price song downloads above the $1-per-song model of some computer-based services, a Sprint spokeswoman said the carrier had yet to work out details of its planned wireless music offering.
“We are evaluating a number of different music services,” Sprint’s Jackie Bostick said. “You can expect services to come that are going to appeal to the mass market (of music fans) who want to be mobile.”
