Md. deploys wireless traffic sensors

WAYNE, Pa.-Traffic.com Inc. said it signed an agreement with the Maryland State Highway Administration that will allow for construction of a network of wireless roadside traffic sensors.

The project will provide Traffic.com with sensor coverage from north of Baltimore to south of Washington D.C., including Interstate-95. The sensor project will be deployed as part of a public-private partnership funded by the federal government that aims to provide drivers with real-time traffic information.

The new sensors will provide vehicle speed information, congestion levels and travel times to Traffic.com operations centers, which distribute reports and information to broadcast media affiliates, commercial customers and to the public on its Web site.
