InfoSpace to add Frogger to prizes program

LOS ANGELES, Calif.-InfoSpace Inc. inked a deal with Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. to develop mobile versions of the arcade classic Frogger.

Konami will distribute and market the game through U.S. carriers under terms of the multi-year deal, and InfoSpace will add the title to its For Prizes platform, a wireless gaming forum and affinity program. An initial title will mimic the play of the 24-year-old arcade game, while other versions will be released later this year.

InfoSpace offers its “For Prizes” program through Verizon Wireless and other carriers. The gaming community awards gift certificates and trips based on high scores, tournaments and consistent play.

“The prizes are an exciting and interesting way to attract people as a hook, but unless they feel a sense of community they’re not going to stick around,” said Andy Riedel, general manager of games for InfoSpace. “We need to make sure we make a compelling enough offering to keep them engaged.”
