ESPOO, Finland-Nokia Corp. has signed an agreement with Sunrise, a Swiss operator, to provide its EDGE network, including Nokia’s UltraSite base stations.
“As the most cost-effective solution for greatly expanding the reach of multimedia services, EDGE is key to our aim of providing the best possible mobile service to our existing and future customers throughout Switzerland,” said Bo Chamberlain, chief technology officer and executive director of networks at Sunrise.
As provider of a nationwide dual-band network, Sunrise delivers mobile, fixed network and Internet services to more than 2.23 million customers in Switzerland.
Nokia said commercial rollouts are expected by the end of 2005, but other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
