Wireless game maker Werd Interactive Inc. is targeting casual players with a series of inexpensive, simple titles.
The developer and publisher introduced four simple games it will sell directly to consumers in the United States and Europe. Werd is offering the titles at $2 each, and they can be purchased with Web-enabled phones. The company said it will launch other similar games in coming weeks.
Werd is marketing the games to users in the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States. Cingular Wireless L.L.C. subscribers can opt to have charges included with their monthly statements; other U.S. consumers must pay for the games with credit or debit cards or through Paypal.
“There’s a lot of talk within the industry about making mobile gaming truly mass market,” said Randy Shepherd, Werd’s managing director. “But nobody seems to be doing anything about it. … Our games are cheap, but they’re simple, fast, fun, and they are not going to intimidate users.”
