WebSky leases spectrum in 4 small markets

SAN FRANCISCO-WebSky Inc. said it has entered long-term leases to use licensed Educational Broadband wireless frequency spectrum on a commercial basis in four small markets in the United States.

The company signed leases with Shekinah Network covering Pierre, S.D.; LaGrande, Ore.; Del Rio, Texas; and Las Vegas, N.M. The agreements cover 24 megahertz of bandwidth in the 2.5 GHz band for up to 30 years.

WebSky said in conjunction with the lease agreements, it has terminated previous agreements with Shekinah for licensed spectrum in Aspen and Vail, Colo.

“The addition of these four new markets further focuses WebSky on its model of securing licensed frequencies and developing wireless broadband projects in underserved domestic and international markets,” said Douglas Haffer, president of WebSky. “The combination of a larger total population in the four new markets and a lower penetration of pre-existing broadband services should allow WebSky to more effectively secure market share in these four locations.”
