TOKYO-NTT DoCoMo Inc. said it will offer an information-capture function called ToruCa in the Osaifu-Keitai when compatible handsets are released this winter.
Osaifu-Keitai refers to mobile phones equipped with a contactless IC card for functions such as electronic money, credit card payments, electronic ticketing and more.
ToruCa will allow users to get information by waving their handsets in front of dedicated reader/writers at restaurants, theaters, music stores, arcades and elsewhere, said the company. Information also will be available at i-mode sites.
DoCoMo said it will not charge a basic fee for the service, but users will pay packet communication charges for obtaining information from i-mode sites.
