SAN DIEGO-Verizon Wireless announced it will sell the innovative VX9800 from LG Electronics Co. Ltd. starting in October. The candybar-style phone flips open to reveal a tiny keyboard and features an MP3 player, support for removable memory cards and Bluetooth. It will sell for $300 with a service plan.
“The VX9800 represents the ultimate convergence of today’s most innovative mobile technologies and brings the very latest advances in wireless entertainment and handset design together for a complete multimedia experience,” said Juno Cho, president of LG’s U.S. phone business. “An evolution in wireless phone technology, the VX9800 represents a giant step forward for both LG and Verizon Wireless in our quest to bring next-generation multimedia entertainment and communications tools to today’s cutting-edge customers.”
The phone is one of a handful of CDMA EV-DO phones from Verizon Wireless. Sprint Nextel Corp. recently introduced its first EV-DO phone, the high-end PPC-6700 with Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system.
