Nokia opens 3G center in Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan-Nokia Corp. announced two new happenings in Taiwan. Nokia opened its third-generation Mobile Services Development Center in Taiwan and announced a partnership with Chunghwa Telecom to launch mobisodes, short videos designed for viewing on mobile phones.

Nokia said its new MSDC is a joint venture with Taiwan’s Institute for Information Industry for the establishment of local training facilities and will focus on developing 3G mobile content and services.

Nokia said that because 3G already is well established in Taiwan, the region’s telecom industry offers an opportunity to experiment with 3G technologies, and the local market is anxious to try more innovative mobile products.

“These factors combine to make Taiwan the best incubating environment,” said Wei Yuan, vice president of Networks at Nokia China. “In addition, with 3G gaining momentum around the world, we created the Mobile Services Development Center to facilitate the joint development of mobile content services and applications for the Chinese-speaking community. We also wish to promote cooperation through the integration of the entire local 3G industry, as well as share innovative products with the entire Chinese community.”

Taiwanese wireless carrier Chunghwa Telecom and Nokia will host Asia Pacific’s first mobile festival to launch their mobisode campaign.
