SAN FRANCISCO-Electronic Arts Inc. will lumber further onto the wireless gaming playground in coming months, releasing wireless versions of seven of its PC- and console-based franchises.
The publisher said it will launch mobile versions of casual PC games Harvest Mania, Word Whomp, World Class Solitaire and Squelchies, as well as games based on FIFA Street, Def Jam and SimCity. The new titles, slated for release this winter and spring, will nearly double the giant game maker’s portfolio of wireless offerings.
EA, which initially announced its intentions to build games for wireless users in March, said it hopes to target both hardcore gamers and a broader segment of casual players with the new titles. Four of the new offerings are from the publisher’s Pogo.com business, which delivers simple games based as much on community as on competition.
“The growth of mobile entertainment hinges on our ability to deliver meaningful communities and unforgettable experiences,” said John Batter, vice president and general manager of EA Mobile. “At EA, our focus is to drive the medium forward by bringing our franchises to market in a way that resonates with the unique play patterns for the mobile consumer.”
