Nokia signs FMC agreement in Brazil

ESPOO, Finland-Nokia Corp. said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Telemar Oi, a Brazilian telecommunications company, to start trials of Nokia’s Fixed Mobile Convergence solutions.

The solutions make use of Telemar’s existing fixed network to create a converged packet-based domain for fixed and mobile services. Telemar has about 15 million subscribers to its fixed network and 8 million subscribers on its Oi-branded mobile network.

The trial includes an end-to-end solution for unified core and converged access networks and Nokia terminals providing multimedia and Voice over Internet Protocol services for both fixed and mobile customers. The Nokia unified core includes the Nokia IP Multimedia Subsystem for voice calls and multimedia services, the Nokia VoIP Server and the Nokia MSC Server System.

The agreement also includes testing of Nokia’s Unlicensed Mobile Access solution.
