I-play plans Olympic-focused mobile game

LONDON-I-play said Friday it will publish a mobile-phone game based on the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.

The U.K.-based game maker unveiled a partnership with International Sports Multimedia, a brand-management company with an exclusive license from the International Olympic Committee for interactive entertainment software. The companies are working together to develop Torino 2006, a wireless title that will highlight Olympic events including downhill skiing, ski jumping, curling and bobsledding.

“This is an incredibly exciting opportunity, especially given that this will be the first-ever mobile phone game release for an Olympics Games,” said Paul Maglione, I-play’s senior vice president of marketing and publishing.

The game will launch in January 2006, one month before the Olympics open.
