MEXICO CITY-Latin American wireless provider America Movil S.A. de C.V. signed an international roaming agreement with Vodafone Group plc covering 53 countries.
The deal initially includes voice and GPRS roaming services, and preferred roaming and virtual home environment. A second stage of the agreement is expected to include prepaid roaming and top-up services.
In addition to its extensive Latin American holdings, America Movil owns Tracfone Wireless Inc., which is one of the largest prepaid wireless service providers in the U.S. Vodafone controls 45 percent of U.S.-based operator Verizon Wireless.
