Wireless goes to the dogs

SEATTLE, Wash.-In a move that proves cellular phone service is truly going to the dogs, Cimbix Corp. said it has completed a licensing agreement that allows it to proceed with worldwide distribution plans for cellular phones for pets.

Cimbix said it plans to offer products from subsidiary PetsMobility Networks Inc. that include the PetsCell, which is a bone-shaped, waterproof cellular device that enables owners to track and talk to their pets by attaching the PetsCell to the animal’s collar.

PetsMobility offers a Web site for users-presumably the humans-and an e-media division that will offer streamed, sponsored “infotainment” to consumers.

PetsMobility sold its marketing and distribution rights to Cimbix in June for a one-time fee of $1 million and a five-percent royalty fee. PetsMobility is headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., and has a technology development center in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Cimbix anticipates that the PetsCell will be available to consumers through the PetsCell Web site, retail stores, pet specialty stores and national wireless retail outlets. The company expects the device to be introduced in more than two dozen North American cities by the end of 2006.
