SAN JOSE, Calif.-Video-game maker Namco America Inc. officially launched its wireless gaming unit, Namco Networks.
The company announced plans to do so in October.
“While the wireless content division of Namco America has always been heavily involved in the publishing and development of mobile games, the establishment of this mobile-dedicated company allows us to concentrate exclusively on mobile content and be a leader in this rapidly growing and changing industry,” said Kenji Hisatsune, president, chief executive officer and chief operating officer of Namco Networks.
Namco owns popular game properties such as Pac-Man, Galaga and Dig Dug. The company said it plans to add 3D mobile games to its catalog, including some based on Namco’s Time Crisis and Ridge Racer brands.
Namco is not the first video game company to expand into wireless. Video game giants Electronic Arts Inc. and THQ Inc. have made similar moves.
