Nokia, Kyocera announce cross-licensing deal

HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia Corp. and Kyocera Wireless Corp. announced a cross-licensing agreement that brings to an end the companies’ two-year patent dispute.

Under the terms of the agreement, Kyocera gets access to Nokia’s patents for CDMA, PHS and PDC technology and will pay Nokia an undisclosed amount in royalties. Reciprocally, Nokia said it will get access to all of Kyocera’s essential patents, including those that cover mobile phones, wireless modules and infrastructure products.

Such cross-licensing agreements have become standard fare in the high-tech wireless marketplace, where intellectual property rights reign supreme.
