MobileIGNITE signs up new members to its FMC cause

LONDON-MobileIGNITE, a trade group aiming to accelerate the adoption of fixed-mobile convergence, picked up new member companies. The group said E28 Limited, BCT Global, Convergin, FG Microtec, HelloSoft, Netrake, NewHeights Software and tekVizion have signed on.

MobileIGNITE stands for Mobile Integrated Go-To-Market Network IP Telephony Experience and was originally founded by BridgePort Networks in January 2005. The group said it focuses on promoting standards-based end-to-end interoperable solutions that improve the quality, coverage, flexibility and cost of mobile voice and data services. The industry association says it is an open, standards-based group with no proprietary limitations, and is building a way for mobile and Voice over Internet Protocol networks to interoperate with carriers’ IP Multimedia Subsystems. MobileIgnite said it is committed to IMS solutions that build on CDMA, GSM, UMTS, Session Initiation Protocol, IMS and 802.11/16 standards.

“Companies that join MobileIGNITE understand the advantage and benefit of driving mobile VoIP deployment based on existing open standards,” said Sanjay Jhawar, chairman of MobileIGNITE’s executive steering committee. “Our members envision a scenario with interconnected fixed network environments and mobile network environments, in any combination, including GSM or CDMA on the mobile side, and with fixed broadband, cable, and ISP environments on the other. MobileIGNITE aims to ensure a tight integration of all these network linkages to generate new revenues to carriers of all types.”

MobileIGNITE’s members include 724 Solutions Inc., Airespace Inc., a subsidiary of Cisco Systems Inc., Aperto Networks Inc., Boingo Wireless Inc., IBM Corp., Kyocera Wireless Corp., Net2Phone Inc., Pctel Inc., SIPquest, Tekelec, WorldCell and VeriSign Inc.
