Summus becomes Oasys Mobile, launches mobile content locker

RALEIGH, N.C.-Summus Inc. launched a mobile portal designed to allow users to purchase and manage digital content.

The company unveiled OasysMobile.com, which it described as a “virtual locker” to store ringtones, games, wallpaper and other content. The service is targeted at 12- to 24-year-old users who often replace their handsets, the company said, thereby potentially losing their content as they move from one device to another.

Summus is promoting the new offering by re-branding itself as Oasys Mobile Inc.

“Teens and college-aged kids are the biggest purchasers of mobile content, yet they lack a way to protect their investments,” said Gerry Purdy, a principal analyst for Mobile Trax.

OasysMobile.com is available to Cingular Wireless L.L.C., Sprint Nextel Corp. and T-Mobile USA Inc. subscribers, the company said. Content from the site is available for one-time purchase for non-subscribers; users with a subscription to the service will be offered bundled content at a discount.
