NEW YORK-Two emerging mobile players announced new funding this week.
Broadband network Heavy.com closed a $10 million round of financing led by Polaris Venture Partners. The funds are earmarked for accelerating the company’s rollout of original programming created for mobile and online viewing. The company has announced plans to offer its range of content-which includes programming staples like “Behind the Music that Sucks” and “Blisster”-to cell phone users.
At the same time, Heavy.com announced Mike Hirshland, general partner of Polaris, has joined the company’s board of directors. Former Intel Corp. Vice President Avram Miller also joined Heavy.com’s board of directors.
Separately, French software company DxO Labs announced it closed a $12.8 million round of funding led by Apax Partners France. The company is developing advanced image processing technologies for the mobile imaging industry.
DxO Labs said the funds will allow it to continue business development in Asia and the United States.
