PLANO, Texas-Alcatel Corp. picked Netrake’s nCite Security Gateway technology to support the launch of its Unlicensed Mobile Access-based wireless LAN solution. Netrake said its gateway gives UMA providers secure access to GSM and GPRS mobile services over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi unlicensed spectrum technologies.
“Netrake is pleased to be working with Alcatel to deploy a proven solution for the global UMA wireless LAN market and ultimately support for seamless mobility,” said Bruce Hill, chief executive of Netrake. “This solution represents a major step forward in delivering IP-based services to mobile subscribers and sets the standard in performance, security and functionality.”
By deploying UMA technology, service providers can enable their subscribers to roam and handover calls between cellular networks and public and private unlicensed wireless networks using dual-mode, UMA-enabled handsets.
Netrake said its gateway makes it possible to establish hundreds of thousands of security associations without adding network latency.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
