BIRMINGHAM, Mich.-Codespear L.L.C. said it won a contract to provide its alert notification and interoperability software to the Michigan State Police Emergency Management Division. The company said its SmartMsg software platform would enable coordination of alert notification, communications interoperability and information sharing during emergencies and other incidents with state, county and municipal emergency managers and first responders.
“SmartMsg will be valuable in numerous operational areas by providing a seamless communication system that enables multiple agencies and disparate groups to send and receive emergency alerts and communicate effectively using diverse networks and devices,” said Michigan State Police Deputy Director, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Miller. “This supplemental communications capability will be a valuable addition to the operational and security needs of the homeland security and public safety initiatives in Michigan.”
Codespear noted that its solution meets the state’s requirements for a secure, integrated software-based solution that is highly scalable, capable of operating on battery power, provides support for wireless voice and data communications and capable of quickly alerting thousands of first-responder personnel.
“SmartMsg will converge and provide coverage to all of Michigan’s current personnel devices and provide seamless alerting and communications with local agencies, with the goal of improving the efficiency of emergency response, which will ultimately serve to mitigate the loss of lives and property,” said Glen Seaman, a vice president at Codespear.
“Not only will Codespear’s solution provide immediate alert notification to key state agency, county and municipal personnel upon entering incident details into our incident command system, SmartMsg will also provide for the establishment of secure communication links and information sharing between the state and the homeland security and emergency management personnel of Michigan counties and municipalities,” said Daniel Sibo, section manager for Michigan’s State Police Emergency Management Division. “The first phase of our rollout includes deployment for Super Bowl XL, supporting key operations team members in Lansing and onsite at the Joint Operations Center in Detroit.”
