Mobile e-mail set to explode

LONDON-Wireless operators’ revenue from enterprise mobile e-mail and personal information management is forecast to triple in the next four years, reaching $600 million by 2009, according to new figures from independent market analyst Datamonitor.

The firm found that wireless e-mail has shown slow but steady growth in the last two years and is poised to explode as more services come to market and as companies that have already deployed such offerings expand services to more employees. Carrier revenues from the applications are expected to grow faster than e-mail service provider revenues due to operators’ “increasing dominance in the value chain,” the firm predicted.

“Mobile e-mail is on the verge of mass-market adoption, and the number of mobilized e-mail accounts will explode over the next three years,” said Datamonitor’s Alaa Owaineh. “As differentiation becomes more difficult, pricing and partnerships will become key factors in achieving growth.”
