SEATTLE-Canadian operator Rogers Wireless Inc. and Melodeo Inc. have partnered to launch what the companies call North America’s first mobile podcast service.
The offering includes more than 1,500 news, sports, comedy and music podcasts that are updated throughout the day. Subscribers can access the offerings on their handsets through the carrier’s wireless Web portal for $5 a month.
The announcement marks the first carrier win for Melodeo’s podcast service, which the developer launched last summer. Melodeo also powers full-track download services for Rogers and Spanish operator Telefonica Moviles Espana.
“Rogers’ podcast service allows our customers to access the latest in digital information and entertainment by bringing one of the fastest-growing mediums on the planet-podcasting-directly to their phones,” said John Boynton, chief marketing officer for Rogers.
