MEXICO CITY-Leading wireless prepaid provider Tracfone Wireless Inc., which is a subsidiary of America Movil, said it gained 1 million new subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2005, bringing its net additions for the year to 1.7 million customers
The new Tracfone subscribers accounted for a nearly a million of Cingular Wireless L.L.C.’s 1.8 million net adds for the fourth quarter; Tracfone is a Cingular reseller customer. The fourth quarter accounted for 58 percent Tracfone’s net additions for the year, America Movil reported.
Tracfone said it ended the year with more than 6.1 million customers, an increase of nearly 40 percent year-over-year. The company’s customers used an average of 66 minutes each month, up from 61 minutes of use during the fourth quarter of 2004. Average revenue per user was essentially flat at $14, and churn was up from 4.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2004 to 4.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2005.
