BOSTON-The wireless enterprise market is expected to move to the mainstream this year, according to a new report from Strategy Analytics.
The market is predicted to grow more than 20 percent this year to more than $22 billion in the North America, Western Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, according to the report, “Mobile Business Application Outlook for 2006.” E-mail functionality is forecast to be the cornerstone of enterprise adoption, with enterprise-grade mobile e-mail users expected to double during the year in those regions, the report added.
“Email will pave the way in 2006 for a broader range of mobilized personal productivity tools and e-business applications,” said Cliff Raskind, director of Strategy Analytics’ Global Wireless Practice. “Led by Nokia (Corp.)/Intellisync (Corp.) and Sybase (Inc.)/Extended Systems, consolidation among e-mail providers has injected a degree of necessary IT clout and staying power to vendors beyond (Research In Motion Ltd.) and Microsoft (Corp.).”
