Qwest posts improved wireless results

DENVER—Regional Bell operating company Qwest Communications International Inc. posted a third quarter of sequential growth after transitioning customers from its own network, which it subsequently sold to Verizon Wireless, to that of Sprint Nextel Corp. Qwest reported that its wireless revenue for the fourth quarter of 2005 was up 11.3 percent from the fourth quarter of 2004, and that wireless revenue for the year increased by 2.5 percent from 2004, to $527 million.

The telecommunications company also saw its average revenue per user jump by almost 11 percent in a quarter-over-quarter comparison, to $51. According to Qwest, about half of its new wireless customers sign up for a data service. Qwest ended 2005 with 770,000 wireless subscribers, up 2.1 percent from the same period last year.

“The company continues to benefit from wireless in the bundle with approximately 75 percent of wireless subscribers on an integrated bill with at least one other service,” Qwest reported. The company said that bundling had contributed to “significantly lower” customer churn, but did not disclose specific numbers. <p
