OVERLAND PARK, Kan.—Sprint Nextel Corp. unveiled a new mobile calling offer that allows its wireless customers to make and receive unlimited calls from one designated wireline number, without draining their wireless minutes.
The Sprint to Home plan for consumers costs $5 a month for unlimited calls to and from their cellular phone and a residential land line number, regardless of the local provider. The carrier said it would soon make a similar offer involving long distance to customers who use Sprint for both wireless and landline long distance, but it would be free.
For businesses, Sprint Mobile to Office is available for $8 per month to customers with a monthly wireless plan of $50 or more. Sprint Nextel indicated that it “plans to expand the value of this offer later this year to allow business customers to pre-identify a range of landline numbers … that can be called without pulling from the subscriber’s bucket of anytime minutes.”
“Sprint is the only national carrier to offer its customers the unique convergence and flexible features found in Sprint to Home and Sprint Mobile to Office,” said Tony Krueck, Sprint Nextel’s vice president of product development and management. “With these options, busy families and mobile professionals alike can experience a new level of convenience and affordability with their communications.”
Sprint Nextel may claim to be the first national carrier to offer such a service, but two prepaid services allow consumers similar options. Virgin Mobile USA L.L.C. is currently offering its “Inner Circle” plan that gives subscribers unlimited night and weekend calls to three designated numbers for 70 cents per day. Alltel Corp. also recently introduced its U prepaid service that allows users to include unlimited calling to a favorite number as part of the 75 cents per-day access fee.
