CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The mobile virtual network enabler market has achieved more than $400 million in recurring revenues on the back of the growing mobile virtual network operator segment in Western Europe and the United States, according to a new study from Pyramid Research.
The report, “MVNOs and MVNEs: Anaylzing the Viability of Virtual Mobile Players,” predicts MVNE recurring revenues will grow to more than $850 million by 2010 in Western Europe and the United States.
In addition, the study found some MVNEs are looking to a venture-capital model, trading their services for a stake in the MVNOs they partner with. This type of relationship, along with unique platforms, is ultimately expected to help some MVNEs survive the MVNO hype. Thus, MVNEs that function simply as intermediaries could be vulnerable, said the report.
