TOKYO—Call it the luck of the Irish—at least as it relates to Finnish vendor Nokia Corp.’s 3G handset debut with Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo Inc.
DoCoMo announced that sales of Nokia’s 6630 3G handset, branded as DoCoMo’s 3G FOMA NM850iG, would begin nationwide March 17.
DoCoMo originally had pegged sales to begin on Feb. 24, then reversed itself, calling for a brief delay as it made unspecified “adjustments to handset quality.” The abrupt delay had dampened Nokia’s moment in the sun; Nokia has been working to expand sales in Japan.
The phone is expected to carry Nokia’s logo as well as DoCoMo’s, which is notable as DoCoMo usually insists on its own brand on its handsets.
