BOSTON—WiMAX networks are expected to play an important role in the evolution of mobile networks to future technology generations, according to a new report from Pioneer Consulting.
Rather than competing with each other, various third-generation and fourth-generation mobile technologies may coexist, said the report.
“In modeling scenarios for 4G development, we found that accelerated growth in demand for 4G stimulates interest in broadband wireless applications, which also has a beneficial impact on demand for 3G,” said Howard Kidorf, managing partner at Pioneer.
The report concludes WiMAX will likely establish market share in the short-term at a significant growth rate, but will not become the dominant mobile technology for the foreseeable future.
