Glu acquires wireless gaming company iFone

SAN MATEO, Calif.—Wireless game-maker Glu Mobile announced it acquired iFone, a wireless entertainment publisher based in Manchester, United Kingdom.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The transaction is just the latest in a long string of merger-and-acquisition activity in the wireless gaming market. The deal comes on the heels of what was the largest such transaction to occur so far—Electronic Arts Inc.’s $680 million purchase of Jamdat Mobile Inc.

“Worldwide success in the mobile games business is predicated on great brands, quality adaptation of those brands to the mobile platform, and exceptional deployment execution,” said Greg Ballard, president and chief executive officer of Glu. “The combination of Glu and iFone will perform these essentials better than anyone in the business.”

Glu said the acquisition will give it access to iFone’s top-selling titles including Lemmings, Atari Classics and Hasbro Inc.’s Monopoly.
