Equipment vendors gear up for FCC’s upcoming auction

LAS VEGAS—Wireless vendors are prepping products and services to take advantage of the Federal Communications Commission’s auction of Advanced Wireless Services spectrum in the 1700 MHz/2100 MHz and 700 MHz bands scheduled to begin in two months.

This week at CTIA, at least four vendors released information on products and services designed for the AWS band:

  • Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. released its new-generation UMTS base station solution for the AWS band.

 

  • Siemens announced U.S. availability of its WayMAX @vantage wireless solution in advance of the auction.

 

  • Nortel Networks introduced several new UMTS solutions for the 850 MHz and 1700 MHz/2100 MHz bands.

 

  • Finally, Nokia’s Services group announced a suite of consultancy services to help auction participants create business cases for the AWS spectrum brand. Services include site engineering consulting.
