Nokia ships 5M N-series devices

BERLIN, Germany—Handset maker Nokia Corp. launched three new models in its N-series and announced that it has sold about 5 million of the N-series multimedia handsets since last year.

The high-end N-Series offer high-quality video and photo capabilities, Internet browsing and other multimedia abilities. Nokia said it expects that the market for such converged devices could grow to 100 million units this year and more than 250 million units in 2008. According to Canalys Research, the converged mobile device market is seeing big changes, and Nokia led that market in the first quarter of 2006, with about 8.6 million devices shipped and 57-percent market share.

“Clearly, people want to have a device that gives them access to all digital content, all the time, wherever they are and at a reasonable price,” said Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia’s executive vice president and general manager of multimedia.
