BELLEVUE, Wash.—Following the current mobile-phone mantra that “thin is in,” Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and T-Mobile USA Inc. today announced the availability of their candy bar-form Samsung t509 in the United States. The t509 measures 9.8 millimeters in thickness, a term no longer used by mobile phone manufacturers—”slim” is the new descriptor of depth following millimeter measurements—and packs the usual bevy of multimedia features.
The companies claim that the t509 is “the thinnest bar phone available in the U.S. market.” The phone stands as Samsung’s response to Motorola Inc.’s Slvr, another thin candy bar phone sold by Cingular Wireless L.L.C.
The t509 is available at T-Mobile USA’s retail and online stores for $50 (including a $50.00 mail-in rebate) and offers a color display, EDGE connectivity speeds, Bluetooth capabilities, a VGA camera, video recorder and player, 70 megabytes of internal memory and messaging capabilities.
