SCHAUMBURG, Ill.—Motorola Inc. hopes to simplify application developers’ access to the company’s resources with a new network dubbed Motodev, the company announced.
The program will combine Motorola’s current developer efforts—including Motocoder, iDen and Horizon—into a single Web resource, to be rolled out in phases beginning today with a new Web portal. Subsequent phases are expected to introduce new business resources to assist developers in building and marketing their innovations.
Motorola’s efforts mirror Nokia Corp.’s Forum Nokia developer portal.
“Compelling user experiences are what win in today’s marketplace and innovative software is the key,” said Ed Zander, chairman and chief executive officer at Motorola, in a statement that reflects the Schaumburg, Ill.-based vendor’s stepped-up efforts to maintain its momentum as an innovator in the market as software becomes an increasingly competitive space for handset vendors.
Indeed, Zander is emphasizing the improvement of software development throughout his company. Zander headed software vendor Sun Microsystems Inc. prior to taking his current post at Motorola.
Motocoder formerly supported developers working on mobile-phone applications, while iDen served the development of business applications and Horizon served developers of home-entertainment applications.
