The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular
- China: Nokia Corp. said it won a GSM network expansion deal with Sichuan Unicom, a China Mobile subsidiary, that calls for the company to provide its GSM and radio core networks.
- France: Alcatel said Orange launched the initial phase of its live HSDPA service in Paris using Alcatel’s radio access solution. Users in the Issy-les-Moulineaux and Boulogne-Billancourt regions of Paris will test the service initially.
- Indonesia: Fixed wireless carrier PT Bakrie Telecom has contracted with Nortel Networks for equipment to significantly boost the capacity and transmission capabilities of its CDMA2000 1x network. The network covers Greater Jakarta and 15 cities in West Java and Banten province.
- Angola: Alcatel said it won a GSM expansion contract with Unitel that calls for it to provide its Evolium multistandard radio access solution. The contract is valued at about $53 million.
Wi-Fi
- Scotland: The University of Abertay Dundee signed an agreement with LastMile Communications to provide equipment that will make the Abertay campus into a testbed for LastMile’s node-based wireless information system.
WiMAX
- United States: Alvarion said six Chicago-area communities have deployed a regional mobile broadband network using the company’s BreezeACCESS 900 system for public-safety applications. The areas covered include Hodgkins, North Riverside, Riverside, Lyons, Countryside, McCook and the Pleasantview Fire District.
