AT&T expands European hot-spot footprint

BEDMINSTER, N.J.—AT&T Inc. said it has expanded its global Wi-Fi footprint through an agreement with WeRoam, a Switzerland-based aggregator and open roaming platform provider that allows the U.S. telecom company to use multiple wireless Internet service provider networks.

According to AT&T, the arrangement means that AT&T now has more than 18,000 total European hot spots, including locations in Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland. In France, the company said, AT&T can offer more than 7,000 Wi-Fi locations through WeRoam’s platform. WeRoam also is providing AT&T with an enhanced footprint in Brazil, Japan and Taiwan.

WeRoam is the trading name of TOGEWAnet AG, which is owned by TOGEWA Holding.

AT&T reported that its total count of hot spots available to its Remote Access business customers is now more than 33,000 worldwide and would continue to expand as the company spends its planned capital investment budget of up to $8.5 billion for this year.
