Qpass targets individuals with self-service storefront

SEATTLE—Qpass is hoping to tap the user-generated content market with the launch of a self-service mobile storefront.

The offering, dubbed TheContentMarket.com, is designed to enable amateur content providers to build fully functioning storefronts on their own Web sites. Site owners can create free accounts, upload content and design their own storefront; Qpass’ technology filters the content for appropriate devices and also handles delivery billing and age verification.

With the move, Qpass joins a handful of wireless companies looking to take user-generated content to mobile phones. Internet sites including MySpace.com and YouTube.com have gained attention—and substantial revenues—by allowing users to post videos, personal profiles and other offerings.

Other companies hoping to gain traction in mobile user-generated content include Intercasting Corp., SMS.ac Inc. and Juice Wireless Inc.

Billing giant Amdocs has announced plans to acquire Qpass.
