NEW YORK—Sonic Branding Solutions Inc., a mobile entertainment developer and publisher, said it acquired mobile software developer DeviceIQ Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The deal calls for all of DeviceIQ’s employees to transition to Sonic. In addition, Bob Pascazio, DeviceIQ’s founder and president, is set to become vice president of engineering and porting at Sonic.
DeviceIQ provides wireless middleware services, embedded software development, mobile content provider services and BREW development services. Sonic licenses and provides products such as ToneMaker DJ, Name That Tune, Hip Hop Hollywood Squares and Screensaver Maker. Carriers including Sprint Nextel Corp., Cingular Wireless L.L.C. and Verizon Wireless offer Sonic’s products.
David JP Danon, founder and chief executive officer of Sonic, said the acquisition will help the company as it expands its products and applications in Europe, Asia and South America. Sonic said DeviceIQ’s technology, porting and production capabilities enhance its ability to offer its entertainment properties and user-generated content communities to operators and off-deck providers.
“In the mobile industry, expertise and large-scale production capabilities are necessary to take advantage of the constantly accelerating device and network capability landscape,” said Pascazio. “We can now bring it all together to create industry leading products.”
