HIGHLAND PARK, Ill.—Yuvee Inc. introduced a new cell phone keypad interface called NeoKeys that it says simplifies commands and text and number entry and eliminates use of the upper screen for navigation.
The keypad eliminates hard labeling on the keys and provides dynamic displays above the keys on LCD display bars based on which features customers are using. The keypad fits in standard mobile phone dimensions, said the company.
Yuvee said it is licensing the rights to device manufacturers to build the NeoKeys interface.
Keypad simplicity is thought to be one of the factors that could drive the use of data features, and a variety of companies have tried their hand at improving phone keypads. Digit Wireless, for instance, offers its Fastap technology, which combines number and letter keys on a standard mobile-phone keypad.
