The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular
- Hong Kong: CSL selected Nokia Corp.’s MSC Server mobile softswitch to expand its network capacity. Also in Hong Kong, SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings launched an HSDPA upgrade on its network.
- Mongolia: Chinese manufacturer ZTE Corp. said it signed a contract to build a CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision A network for Skytel.
- Russia: Sky Link and Lucent Technologies Inc. said they have begun a project to increase the capacity and coverage of Sky Link’s CDMA450 network in Moscow. According to Lucent, Sky Link will become the first carrier to deploy its latest and smallest CDMA450 base station, the Lucent CDMA450 Modular Cell 4.0 Compact base station.
- Uzbekistan: Huawei Technologies said CDMA operator Perfectum Mobile launched a CDMA2000 1x network provided by Huawei.
Wi-Fi
- New Zealand: RoamAD said it provided a municipal Wi-Fi network for the city of Bologna in a partnership with Hi-Tel Italia and a local Internet service provider, Acantho.
- United States: Proxim Wireless Corp. said it deployed its broadband wireless system equipment to support a municipal wireless network in Dickenson County, Va. The network, to be used initially by public-safety agencies, includes outdoor Wi-Fi access points and high-speed point-to-point microwave radios for backhaul.
WiMAX
- Canada: Sogetel Communications, an independent telecom carrier serving rural Quebec, announced plans to launch a WiMAX, VoIP and Wi-Fi network using equipment from Airspan. Systems integrator Mmwave Technologies will handle the deployment.
