Amp’d Mobile links to Best Buy

LOS ANGELES—Mobile virtual network operator Amp’d Mobile Inc. announced that its first major distribution deal will be through Best Buy stores.

Best Buy is expected to start selling Amp’d Mobile phones and service beginning this summer. Until this deal, Amp’d Mobile had essentially relied on its Web site and its availability through dealers for distribution.

According to Amp’d Mobile, it will have three handsets available in stores for customers to buy; currently, the company is selling the black Motorola Inc. Hollywood clamshell and both a black and white version of a Kyocera Corp. slider phone. The sliders are $50 with a postpaid plan and $100 on a prepaid basis. The Motorola phone costs $150 for pay-as-you-go, and is discounted to $100 for postpaid customers.

Amp’d Mobile recently introduced a prepaid service to its line-up.
