Juice squeezes $1 million from Citizens

NEW YORK—Mobile software developer Juice Wireless Inc. snared a $1 million investment from telecommunications service provider Citizens Communications Co.

Juice, which is hoping to gain traction on the crowded playground of mobile user-generated content, said it will use the capital to market existing applications and services. The company’s flagship product, dubbed JuiceCaster, allows users to create and distribute text, images, audio and video across mobile phones and computers.

Investors and developers are looking to wireless in an effort to duplicate the success of Internet sites such as MySpace.com and YouTube.com, which feature user-generated content and community-building features. Intercasting Corp., Traffix Inc., SMS.ac and Nellymoser Inc. are just a few of the players looking to cash in by enabling users to publish and share content.

“This strategic investment in Juice Wireless is yet another validation not just of our potential, but also our success thus far,” said David Herman, Juice’s chief executive officer.
