REDMOND, Wash.—Microsoft Corp.’s Mobile and Embedded Devices division achieved profitability for the first time, the company announced. The division houses the company’s smart-phone efforts.
Microsoft’s division logged an operating income of $2 million for the year, a turnaround from a loss of $65 million the division reported in 2005. For the most-recent quarter, the unit reported an operating loss of $2 million, an improvement from an operating loss of $15 million during the same quarter last year.
Revenues for the division during the quarter totaled $113 million, up from $80 million during the same quarter last year. Revenues for the year clocked in at $377 million, a healthy increase from revenues of $262 in 2005.
The company also said licenses for Windows Mobile-based phones grew 90 percent during the fiscal 2006 year.
