The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular
- China: China Mobile awarded Huawei a contract to expand its GSM network.
- Kuwait: Motorola Inc. said it won a contract to provide Mobile Telecommunications Company Kuwait with ongoing enhancement to the carrier’s network as well as optimization services to improve MTC’s network performance.
- Spain: TeliaSonera’s Xfera subsidiary in Spain reached an agreement with L.M. Ericsson to supply radio, network and service equipment for Xfera’s launch of third-generation services in the country. The network is scheduled to go live by the end of this year.
Wi-Fi
- Iraq: Wireless Interactive Comm. Inc. completed a network in Iraq using its Orion 900 MHz radios to serve as a network of wireless backbone infrastructure that is then redistributed on the company’s RedFire-200, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi radios.
WiMAX
- United States: Nomad Digital Ltd. and train operator Caltrain said they have successfully completed a proof of concept trial for a WiMAX-based technology that provides continuous high-speed Internet access for Caltrain’s passengers.
Miscellaneous
- Chile: Movistar Chile chose L.M. Ericsson to provide its Mobile Softswitch Solution, including multiservice IP transport, to upgrade the carrier’s network as part of its transition to an all-IP network.
- Czech Republic: Radcom Ltd. said Telefonica O2 Czech Republic has selected it to provide the carrier with its monitoring, analysis and troubleshooting products for its UMTS network.
- United States: Alcatel said it has been selected by York County, Pa., to provide a microwave radio solution for an advanced public-safety communications network.
