NEW YORK-Sprint Nextel Corp. subscribers will soon be able to tune in to live radio broadcasts of their favorite professional baseball teams straight from their handsets.
The carrier unveiled a non-exclusive pact with Major League Baseball Advanced Media to deliver live audio broadcasts of every game for $6 a month.
The service, which is slated for a mid-August launch and is expected to be available to Sprint Nextel Vision and Power Vision subscribers, is delivered via MLB’s WAP site and includes the same content as the league’s Web site.
While the effort is one of the first to provide live wireless broadcasts of professional baseball, both Sprint Nextel and Major League Baseball have moved aggressively to offer mobile content for sports fans. Sprint Nextel boasts exclusive deals with the National Football League and NASCAR, and MLB has various agreements with FunMobility Inc., MobiTV Inc. and service providers including Mobile ESPN L.L.C.
